Senior Database Engineer / Programmer

This is a contract-to-W2 position. Torrey Path seeks to find someone that fits in with our team and culture with a high probability of joining full-time by the end of 2009.
Duties
Working closely with peers and management, selected candidate would:
- Assess requirements, estimate time and resources to create solutions.
- Design, implement and deliver solutions that meet the product requirements.
- Evaluate and recommend technology solutions and approaches
- Document solutions, schemas and designs
- Promote data services and database engineering best practices
Experience
- At least five years of commercial experience in database engineering/applications development
- Previous experience as the lead or core member of a team creating a data warehouse including hands-on experience in the design and implementation of an OLAP data model (schema, SQL), ETL code, or similar
- Experience abstracting and implementing application data layer services in Java in a multi-tier distributed application stack
Skills
- Expert level knowledge of SQL with MySQL administration of large databases
- Experience in database optimization techniques
- MS SQL Server understanding and experience
- Java programming skills required
- GWT or similar Java application framework a plus
- Familiarity with biological data and databases a huge plus
- Familiarity with ontologies a plus
- SmartGWT or Smartclient experience a plus
Education
Bachelor’s in CS/EE or equivalent
